what does bff stand for?

BFF can stand for whatever resonates with you, whether it's Best Furry Friend or Best Friend Forever. We believe BFF should be a personal reflection of your relationship with your pet, as that bond is unique to each individual. The story behind "BFF" originates from the founder, Rachel, and her first beloved dog, Billy. Rachel initially visited the West LA Shelter with the intention of meeting a different dog she had seen in a photo on a website. However, upon meeting Billy, an immediate and profound connection was established. This encounter led Rachel to realize that if she had relied solely on a picture, she would have missed the opportunity to welcome Billy, who had a bad photo representation,  into her life. Inspired by this experience, she launched "Billy's Friend," a project where she captured professional images of shelter dogs and shared them on her Instagram page, amassing nearly 20,000 followers. The dream was always to support shelter dogs, and the name "Billy's Friend Foundation" or "BFF" seemed like a fitting choice. Today, this vision has evolved into The BFF Club.

What happens if I need to cancel a service?

If you need to cancel your booking, we ask that you provide at least 3 hours notice in advance for any same-day services such as pet drop-ins, dog walks and/or private daycare. For any overnight services we request 24 hour advance notice, and for any overnight services longer than 3 days, we request 5 day advance notice. After which there will be a 50% cancellation fee. It is understandable that emergencies and unexpected situations can arise, but please keep in mind that we allocate our time and resources to accommodate your pet's needs. Please note that we reserve the right to reject or cancel bookings at any time. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

How many dogs can you walk at once?

We walk up to three dogs at once. This allows us to give each dog the individual attention and care they deserve while still providing them with the socialization and exercise benefits of walking with other dogs. However, the exact number of dogs  walked at once may vary depending on the specific needs and behavior of each dog. Rest assured that we always prioritize the safety and well-being of all dogs in our care.

How do you ensure the safety of the dog(s) during walks?

The safety of your dog(s) is our top priority during walks. When needed, we use a double hook leash to ensure that your dog(s) cannot accidentally slip out of their leash or collar. We also avoid busy streets and intersections and take precautionary measures to avoid any potential hazards. In addition, all BFF Buddies are trained to recognize and handle any signs of distress or discomfort in your dog(s) and will take the necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being.

Can I use dog walking as a supplement to doggy daycare?

Absolutely! Dog walking and drop-in visits can be a great supplement to doggy daycare. In fact, we can work with the doggy daycare to schedule walks before, midday, or after daycare to ensure your pup gets the attention and exercise they need throughout the day. Just let us know your dog's daycare schedule and we'll work with you to create a customized plan that meets your needs.

When should I get a dog walker?

There are several instances where getting a dog walker could benefit you and your dog. Some of these instances include:

  • When you have a busy schedule: If you work long hours or have a hectic schedule, it can be difficult to give your dog the exercise and attention they need. A dog walker can ensure that your dog gets the exercise they need even when you can't be there.

  • When you have limited mobility: If you have limited mobility due to an injury, illness, or disability, it may be difficult for you to take your dog for walks. A dog walker can help ensure that your dog gets the exercise they need, even if you are unable to do so.

  • When you are going on vacation: If you are planning on going on vacation and cannot bring your dog with you, a dog walker can ensure that your dog is taken care of while you are away. Using a combination of dog walks and drop-ins could be a better more cost effective alternative to doggy daycare.

  • When your dog has excessive energy: Some breeds have a lot of energy and require a lot of exercise to keep them healthy and happy. A dog walker can provide the exercise and stimulation your dog needs to burn off excess energy.

  • When your dog is bored or lonely: If your dog is bored or lonely during the day, a dog walker can provide them with companionship and exercise, helping to alleviate boredom and loneliness.

Remember, even if you don't fall into any of these categories, a dog walker can still be a great addition to your dog's life and help ensure their overall well-being.

How long should a dog be alone before a drop-in or dog walk is needed?

The answer depends on the dog's age, temperment, and individual needs. In general, adult dogs can hold their bladder for up to 8-10 hours, but it's not recommended to leave them alone for this long on a regular basis. Puppies and senior dogs may need more frequent potty breaks, and dogs with high energy levels may need more exercise and attention throughout the day. As a rule of thumb, it's best to schedule a drop-in or dog walk every 4-6 hours to ensure your dog's physical and mental well-being. If you're unsure about your dog's specific needs, consult with a professional dog trainer or your veterinarian for guidance.

is dog walking or doggy daycare better for my dog's socialization?

Both dog walking and doggy daycare can be good for your dog's socialization, but it ultimately depends on your dog's personality and needs. Dog walking allows for one-on-one attention from the dog walker and controlled interactions with other dogs, while doggy daycare provides more opportunities for your dog to interact with other dogs in a supervised environment. However, if your dog is shy or anxious around other dogs, starting with dog walking may be a better option to slowly ease them into socialization. On the other hand, if your dog is very high energy and loves to play with other dogs, then doggy daycare may be the better choice if the doggy daycare offers adequate training to their dog attendants. If you need doggy daycare recommendations, we can certainly provide those to you. Taking dogs for walks can provide them with mental stimulation that they may not receive at doggy daycares. It's important to assess your dog's individual personality and socialization needs to determine which service is best for them.

When should I schedule a dog walk versus a drop-in visit for my dog?

A dog walk is ideal for dogs who need more exercise and stimulation. If you have a busy schedule and cannot take your dog for a walk as often as you would like, a dog walker can help ensure that your pet is getting the exercise they need. On the other hand, a drop-in visit is better suited for dogs who need a quick potty break, a meal, or some company during the day. If you have a puppy, a senior dog, or a dog with medical needs, a drop-in visit can be a great way to ensure that your pet is comfortable and well-cared for while you are away. Ultimately, the choice between a dog walk and a drop-in visit depends on your dog's individual needs and your schedule.

What is a pet drop-in?

A pet drop-in is a service where a professional pet sitter visits your home to check on and care for your pet(s) while you're away. This can include feeding, providing fresh water, administering medication, letting them outside for potty breaks, and giving them some love and attention.

What tasks can be performed during a drop-in visit?

During a pet drop-in visit, a BFF Buddy can provide food and fresh water, administer medication if necessary, and take your pet(s) outside for potty breaks. They may also spend time playing with and giving your pet(s) some love and attention.

What types of pets can receive drop-in visits?

Pet drop-in visits are suitable for a wide range of pets, including cats, dogs, birds, fish, and small animals like rabbits, hamsters, and guinea pigs.

What types of pets do you transport?

We transport dogs and cats of all sizes and breeds. Unfortunately, we do not transport other small or exotic animals at this time.

How do you ensure safe transport of my pet?

Dogs are secured by a dog seat belt harness, and cats must be put into provided cat carriers.

Do you offer long-distance pet transport?

Yes, we offer long-distance pet transport within a reasonable distance. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs and to get a quote for long-distance transport. To view pricing, view our services page.

what is your daysitter & overnight watchdog service?

The Daysitter and Overnight Watchdog options are ideal for pet owners who don't require full-day pet sitting. The Daysitter service assigns a BFF Buddy to your pet from breakfast through dinner, providing a minimum of three hours of care. This doesn't include overnight stays. You can tailor the service to your dog's needs: a single three-hour visit, three one-hour visits (morning, midday, and evening), or spread out over the day. The schedule will be based on your dog's meal and bathroom routines. If you would like longer than three consecutive hours, then an additional hourly fee will be applied.

The Overnight Watchdog service covers the period from dinner to breakfast. It's perfect for dogs that are okay alone during the day but enjoy nighttime companionship.

Why should I choose a daysitter over traditional daycare facilities?

Traditional daycare facilities can be stressful for many dogs, especially if they are overcrowded. Dogs need ample sleep, and private daycare allows them to rest and play in a quieter, less stressful environment. With fewer dogs, the risk of accidents or conflicts is significantly reduced.

What is the difference between boarding and in-home pet sitting?

Boarding is when your dog stays in the home of the BFF Buddy, while in-home pet sitting is when the BFF Buddy stays in your home.

Which pet-sitting option is best for my dog?

Boarding is best for dogs that are adaptable with minimal anxiety. In-Home Pet Sitting is best for dogs with any form of anxiety and/or dogs that benefit from routine. You give us your dog's day-in-the-life, and we'll recreate it while you're away!

What can you expect during pet sitting?

During pet sitting, you can expect daily pictures and communication to keep you updated on your pet's well-being. You'll also receive a nightly overview report, and your pet will receive lots of love!

How should I prepare for a pet sitting service?

To prepare for a pet sitting session, make sure you provide all the items mentioned in the previous answer. It's also a good idea to download the Time to Pet app, which will help you stay connected and receive updates during the pet sitting session.

What should be provided to the bff buddy to prepare for a pet sitting session?

You should provide your pet's food, leashes, and any other gear they need. Additionally, you can provide their bed, medications if needed, crate, blankets, toys, and anything else your pet might need for comfort.
